FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions, Asked and Answered

Here are the most common questions we get about our charters.   If you can’t find what you’re looking for send a text to Captain Matt @ 475-666-0696

Can you pick up and drop off at different locations?

Yes, we’re happy to provide this with a relocation fee.

What should I consider when choosing a charter company?

The first two things that come to mind are comfort & safety. Who are you going out on the water with?  Are they safety concious?   Are they licensed? Ask to see their credentials.  By law, they must carry their captains license with them at all times on the charter.  It’s a red passport-style book and any legitimate captain will be happy to oblige.   As far as comfort, pick a charter with a good size boat (30′-36′),  ideally a twin engine boat.  This provides a wide beam (width) to allow plenty of room to spread out and a stable, safe ride.

Can I bring more than 6 people on board?

There is a strict federal policy limiting virtually all charters of this nature to 6 guests. This includes all adults and children.

There’s a chance of rain on the day of my charter, can I reschedule?

Light rain, passing showers or chance of rain is considered to be safe to be on the water and we will proceed as scheduled.

What is your Cancelation policy?

Customers may cancel the charter at least 10 days prior and receive a 100% refund on deposit less the booking fee. Cancellations between 10 and 3 days prior to the charter date are subject to a 50% refund on deposit. Cancellations less than 3 days prior to the charter date will result in a forfeit of the deposit. In the event Compass Charters has to reschedule the charter there will be no cost to the customer or full refund provided.

What about weather safety issues?

The weather can be a challenge due to the nature of forecasting. Ultimately the Captain has the final call for the safety of all if the vessel will leave the dock. Wind & water conditions may require a change of itinerary to provide a safe charter.

In the event of a small craft warning, or severe thunderstorm warning all charters will be suspended and rescheduled at time convenient to both Compass Charters and the customer. There will be no fee to reschedule in the event of a small craft warning or severe thunderstorms warning.

How early can I show up to the boat?

We encourage all guests to arrive 15 minutes prior to departure. We do our best to maintain a very tight schedule to ensure maximum time on the water for our guests. Your charter time starts as indicated on your reservation, regardless of leaving the dock or not.

Can I extend my time on the water?

This is determined by the schedule of our other charters on that day. If we have the flexibility to accommodate a longer charter we are happy to oblige. The fee will be prorated and is comparable to the established hourly rate of your charter.

Are tips included?

Tips are not included or required, but are welcomed if you feel your captain and/or crew made a memorable experience for your guests.

Where can we eat lunch or dinner?

There are a few options available. You can dine-in the restaurant or get dock-side pickup from a few establishments. Rowayton Seafood, The Wheel, Crabshell, Prime, Harbor View at Isochoda Yacht Club, The Galley, Sunset Grille, Sono Seaport Seafood are some of the options.

Can I bring my own food?

Yes, we encourage our guests to bring food on trips! We do ask guests refrain from bringing Red Wine & Cheetos onboard. Cleaning fees may apply for spills!

Please ask about catering options from our vendors. They’re delivered fresh to the dock for your charter.

Do you provide water & ice?

Yes, all our charters include complimentary ice, bottled water. We have a cooler onboard for provided items; however guests are encouraged to bring small coolers with refreshments.

Can I bring my own life jackets?

You are welcome to bring your own life jackets, especially for children provided they are USCG approved (will be clearly stated on the label). The captain must be able to verify the life jacket meets this regulation. Children under 12 must wear a life jacket at all times on board while we’re underway.

Can I bring Marijuana or other drugs on board?

Despite the recent decriminalization of marijuana, our charters are federally regulated and there is a very strict NO DRUGS policy aboard. Guests found to be violating this policy will have their cruises terminated immediately and no refund will be given. Absolutely no exceptions.
